De-escalation is a skill that requires a person assess the totality of the situation so that they can make the best decision with regard to safety and communication to de-escalate the situation. Effective de-escalation requires an understanding of human physiology, use-of-force decision making, situational awareness, and tactical communication. This certificate program provides learners with knowledge and skills to make them effective at understanding and de-escalating situations, while staying safe themselves. (26 hours; four months to complete)
